Indigenous Programming

Indigenous Family Violence Prevention

The Families of Tradition program is based on neuroscience and connections to the historical trauma Indigenous people have experienced. The goal of the program is to teach families the effects of trauma that is caused not only by domestic violence, but also from past trauma the parents may have experienced (childhood abuse, inter-generational trauma). The program also teaches parents how to take steps toward healing and have a healthy family.

About this Program:

  • This program is offered free of charge to Indigenous families living in Calgary and the surrounding area.
  • The program runs on a schedule of 12 weeks, with a family support worker coming to the home, or in meeting at our offices, once per week. Families are provided with a letter stating they have completed the course.
  • Families are provided with education, emotional support, information and resources. We also offer a group format; please ask about future dates.
